Redact a PDF on this device, then burn the boxes in

Cover Aadhaar numbers, addresses, or contract clauses in this tab. Flatten so the box is not a removable overlay. The file is not uploaded.

Overlay versus burned-in redaction

A black rectangle drawn in a hosted editor is often an annotation. Someone can delete the box and read the number. Redaction that counts burns the mark into the pixels. Here you draw the boxes on the page in this tab, then flatten or compress so the download is an image. The digits are not still sitting in a text layer under the box.

That is the right fallback for a scan you already have. It is not the same as UIDAI’s masked Aadhaar, which the authority generates with the first eight digits hidden. Download that official file when the other party will accept it. Use this tool when you only have a photograph or a full printout.

Contracts are the other everyday case: a rent clause, a bank account in a footer, a witness address. Cover only what the recipient should not see, preview every page, then download.

  1. Open the PDF. Pages render in this tab.
  2. Draw boxes over the numbers or clauses. Auto-redact can suggest 12-digit and PAN-like strings on a text PDF; a photo needs the box by hand.
  3. Flatten or compress so the page becomes an image.
  4. Open the download and search for the number. If you can still find it, the redaction did not hold.

Frequently asked questions

Does redacting upload the PDF?

No. The boxes are drawn in this browser tab. Document bytes are not sent to pdfonbrowser.com.

Is a black box enough?

Only if it is burned in. Flatten or compress afterward so the page is an image, then search the download for the number you meant to hide.

Is this the same as masked Aadhaar?

No. Masked Aadhaar is a file UIDAI generates. A redacted scan is your picture with marks on it. Prefer the official download.

Will auto-redact catch every Aadhaar number?

No. It looks for patterns such as 12-digit groups. Noisy scans miss. Preview, and draw the rest yourself.
