Compress a PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB

Shrink a PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB in this tab, or cap each page at 300 KB for PAN. Pages become images. The file is not uploaded.

Pick a size, not only Light / Medium / Heavy

Presets are still there: Light is about 150 DPI, Medium about 108 DPI, Heavy about 72 DPI. The size buttons aim at 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB. The tool tries a sharper image first and steps down until the file is under that number. If the smallest image is still too big, it says so and does not pretend the target was met.

UPSC document PDFs are a band, 50–300 KB, not only a ceiling. The UPSC mode warns when a result falls under 50 KB. PAN supporting scans are 300 KB per page: that mode fits each page on its own. Scholarship files we checked are 200 KB per document. A résumé is usually a 2 MB problem, and that 2 MB figure is commonly cited rather than an official Naukri specification.

Pages become pictures

Every mode draws each page to a JPEG and builds a new PDF. Selectable text is gone. That is useful when a portal only has to display a certificate. It is a bad idea when an ATS must read a text layer or you still need to copy a paragraph. Export a slimmer file from Word first if you need real text, then try Light.

You can confirm nothing was uploaded: after the page has loaded, disconnect the network or watch the network panel, then compress. The download still finishes. Optional analytics and a tip, if you choose one, use the network. The PDF does not.

  1. Drop the PDF. It stays in this tab.
  2. Choose a target size, PAN per-page, the UPSC band, or Light / Medium / Heavy.
  3. Download. Read the size on your device and zoom small print before you upload it anywhere.
  4. If the tool says the target is impossible, split out the pages the form asked for and run those.

Frequently asked questions

Can I compress a PDF to an exact size without uploading it?

Yes. Choose 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB. The file is redrawn in this tab until it is under that size, or you are told the smallest image copy is still over it.

Does compression keep selectable text?

No. Full-page rasterizing turns every page into an image. Read the download before you submit it.

What is the UPSC size rule?

Document PDFs on the UPSC instructions we checked must be between 50 KB and 300 KB. There is a minimum. The UPSC mode warns if the result is under 50 KB.

How does PAN’s 300 KB rule work?

Protean’s Form 49A specification caps supporting documents at 300 KB per page. Per-page mode fits each page under that cap, then combines them. A page that cannot fit is named instead of ignored.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Compress runs in this browser tab. Document bytes are not sent to pdfonbrowser.com.
